Pro Tips

Moving can be a heavy burden, both physically and mentally. That's why we're here to help lighten the load with practical packing advice and organizational strategies that won't break the bank!

Preparation

  • Start packing early: Begin packing well in advance of your moving date to avoid last-minute stress. Start with items you use infrequently and gradually work your way towards daily essentials.

  • Declutter before packing: Take the opportunity to declutter your belongings before packing. Donate, sell, or discard items you no longer need or use to streamline your move and reduce the amount of items you'll need to pack and unpack.

  • Gather packing supplies: Stock up on essential packing supplies such as boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, and packing tape. Having everything you need on hand will streamline the packing process and ensure your belongings are properly protected during transit.

  • Create a packing plan: Develop a packing plan to stay organized throughout the process. Start with one room at a time and label boxes accordingly to make unpacking easier at your new home. We highly recommend to use different color labels for different rooms, to make them recognizable.

Packing

  • Place heavy items in small boxes: Distribute weight evenly by packing heavy items, like books, in smaller boxes to prevent them from becoming too cumbersome.

  • Use large boxes for lighter items: Maximize space and minimize strain by packing lighter items in larger boxes. This ensures efficient use of packing space while maintaining manageable box weights.

  • Separate and label fragile items: Protect delicate belongings by packing them separately in labeled boxes. Clearly marking fragile items helps movers handle them with extra care during transport.

  • Label boxes clearly: Facilitate organization and unpacking by labeling all boxes on the top and sides. Clearly marked labels ensure movers know where each box belongs and help you locate items quickly at your new home.

  • Secure boxes with durable tape: Prevent items from shifting or falling out during transit by securely taping all boxes. Reinforce seams and closures with durable packing tape to keep your belongings safe and secure.

Furniture and Appliances Tips

  • Empty drawers, cabinets, and shelves: Streamline the moving process by emptying all furniture storage spaces into boxes. This ensures items are secure during transport and reduces the risk of damage to furniture.

  • Prepare appliances: Disconnect electrical devices and plumbing connections from appliances before the movers arrive. Additionally, empty and defrost refrigerators and freezers to avoid leaks and ensure safe transport.

Safety Tips

  • Clear walkways: Ensure safe access and easy transfer by clearing items from walkways. Remove obstacles and clutter to facilitate the movement of furniture and boxes.

  • Remove doors if necessary: If large items won't fit through doorways, consider removing doors from hinges to provide extra clearance. This simple step can prevent damage to both your belongings and your home's architecture.

  • Clear snow and ice: Prepare for winter moves by shoveling and salting driveways, sidewalks, and footpaths. Clearing snow and ice reduces the risk of slips and falls, making the moving process safer for everyone involved.
